I spent years in school and art college as a traditional artist using paints and pencils, soon after came Photoshop. During my time as a graphic designer I felt it was a natural progression to pick up the camera and began shooting. Initially music, clubs and festivals, where I learnt to deal with demanding light and acquired an arsenal of press skills, hangovers and broken equipment!
Then few years in fashion photography gave me my skills in lighting and processing. I’ve had my fair share of work featured in various publications.
Weddings came soon after, with some of them immediately featured in top UK wedding mags like Confetti and Wedding Ideas.
I moved back soon after to cover UK City of Culture at the request of Culture Company, I covered many of the events and had a lot of these featured in local book alongside other photographers, “A Legenderry Year” by Guildhall Press. Reuters, the Daily Mirror, the Derry Journal, Derry News etc also featured work. I’ll never forget floating across the city in a hot air balloon, the most surreal assignment I had to date. Working with one of the top UK portrait photographers for the Turner Campaign was also a highlight.
I consider my work contemporary, on trend. I create stories with my lens, use my intuition and experience to capture these stories. I’m not one for herding people, or awkwardly trying to get you to do star jumps or pose in ridiculous situations. I try to create something real, something you can look back on time and time again, and appreciate with family and friends.
My photography is honest (no cheese), I shoot when you are not looking, I’ve been compared to a stealth ninja with a camera…
…and for the comfort of your wedding day, I regard that as a compliment!
I have a strong genuine passion for various styles of photography, including wedding, fashion, music, club and event photography. Formerly based in Liverpool for the almost ten years where I learnt my craft, and still do commissions there and other parts of England and abroad.
When the UK City of Culture 2013 was awarded to Derry I found myself back home covering most of the events as mentioned, and teaching workshops in photography through my role in Portrait of a City.
Now back in Home, I’m taking on more work here, including weddings, portfolios shots and other commissions. This includes Donegal and other outlaying areas also.
With the will to travel, I can and have covered assignments abroad. I have covered weddings all over England and Switzerland, festivals in Croatia, and corporate work in the Canary Islands. I still wouldn’t regard myself as ‘international’ yet until someones books me from outside Europe! *still waiting for that dream wedding in somewhere like Shanghai or Singapore!
PS – My contact form wasn’t working for a while, but a kind soul has let me know this. I now have it fully working! Feel free to drop me a mail or text.
